Bernard N. Bowden, age 82, of Mitchell, passed away Saturday, May 10, 1997, at Bloomington Hospital. Born June 11, 1914, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Noble R. and Grace (Tackett) Bowden. He married Blanche E. Batchelor on March 28, 1937, and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Jerry Bowden of Mitchell and Lester Bowden of Loogootee; two daughters, Shirley Gross of Mitchell and Karen Carpenter of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters, Mary Taylor and Virginia Burton, both of Mitchell; twelve grandchildren; several step grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and several step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister, and one grandchild.
Bernard Bowden was a member of the Mitchell Church of the Nazarene and a retired employee of Lehigh Portland Cement Company.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 14th, at the Mitchell Church of the Nazarene with the Revs. Mark Bechtel and Marvin Patton officiating.
Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-8 PM Tuesday at Chastain Funeral Home and after 9:00 AM Wednesday at the church.
