The title of Colonel was conferred upon him by the late Governor Geary of Pennsylvania, by a commission dated Jun 12 1871 as aide de camp, Pa. National Guard.
He was owner and founder of the well-known Stichter hardware firm in the City. Located where once stood the Indian trading post of Conrad Weiser.
Married Elizabeth Diehl, she survives with children Thomas D. Stichter, his business partner; daughters Lillie D., Ella L. w/o Henry Mulholland
