A Tribute to my Loving Mom:
Within the dates, among the faces and places, memories come floating into my mind of a woman, a dear mother, who touched my life and many of yours as well. So vivid is my childhood memory of the mother who held me in her lap and read to me, to the mom who fixed my favorite soup and tucked me into bed when I was sick, again, often reading to me to help ease my pain, and for the visions of her at the kitchen stove and sink. I can still visualize her washing dishes after meals cooked for so many: her wonderful pot roast, extra tender and rich with gravy, her splendid bread and cinnamon rolls (one could smell them a block away!), and of her Christmas peanut brittle we all fought over.

So easily, I picture her on the tractor, her large straw bonnet waving in the breeze, her bent form in the garden digging among the flowers, the vegetables, large and glorious. But more than anything, I see her smiling, beckoning face. "Sit a bit," she would say, "and tell me about your world," which often her friends and family would do till in the wee hours of the morning. Easy going, stoic in her faith of God and the "can do" attitude, she practiced hospitality like few I ever knew. She dearly loved her husband and always spoke well of him, even though she could stand her own ground in the occasional dispute. She practiced patience with her children and family, encouraged them and believed in them for good things. She was the farmer's wife and his accountant, pinching pennies so her man could see some of his visionary dreams come true.

A transplant to Idaho in the early 1940's, she made Idaho home, and she made me and mine feel at home. Now we rejoice that she has joined many of those she loved—her husband, her son, various brothers, sisters, in-laws and friends—who ventured to the sweet by-and-by on another beautiful shore. See you later, mother. Thank you for all that you have been. We love you.
