Mrs. R. Williams, Sr.
A former resident of Berkley from 1956-1968, Mrs. Ermina C. Williams, age 82, 45821 Cornwall, Utica, died Wednesday in Hilton Convalescent Home, Ferndale, after an extended illness.
Born Nov. 27, 1889, in Detroit, she is survived by her husband, Ralph H. Williams, Sr. Also surviving are two children, Mrs. Desmond (Betty Ruth) Kelly, Utica; Ralph, Jr., Berkley; two brothers; one sister; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday at William Sullivan and Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall, Utica. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Cemetery, Troy.
~My paternal grandmother, she was the oldest child of Moses and Mary (Ruloff) Lorion. She was born in Detroit, Michigan, where she lived during her early life.
On April 7, 1924 she married Ralph H. Williams, in Lucas County, Ohio. They lived in Detroit, Michigan where their two children were born. Grandpa and Grandma bought a brand new house in Berkley, Michigan in the 1950's. It is to this house that we would go every Sunday. Grandma would make a fantastic dinner. After dinner the adults would play cards. On many Sunday afternoons, us kids were allowed to go to the movie theater on the next block. The very first movie I remember seeing at that theater was the Sound of Music.
I remember lots things about Grandma, she was a quilter, a seamstress, she loved flowers and her garden was full of beautiful blooms. But most of all I remember how much she loved us kids!!
NOTE: Although her headstone has her middle initial as "C", she always signed her name "Ermina Katherine", Grandpa ordered their headstone after Grandma's death, not sure if it was an error by the headstone company or if Grandpa just got it wrong.
