Virgil had great pride in his duty with the USMC and was a Veteran of the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant.
Virgil loved his family and friends and enjoyed being a part of a cook off team and often bragged about his extraordinary skills as a cook. He also loved hunting, fishing and riding with the Texas Trail Riders but most of all fun with his family and friends. Virgil had a quick with and was considered to be quite humorous by everyone.
He enjoyed his work with Gulf State Tubes and retired after 33 years. Virgil was a great husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Virgil is survived by his wife; Monette Boortz, children; Kimberly Boortz Band and husband Max, Terry Kovarcik and husband Lee, Debra Howell, Terri Corley, Ronda Walpole and husband Haril and Mike Reynolds and wife Tammy. Grandchildren; Will, Chad, Charidy, Lee J, Cory, Carol, Michael Ross, Miranda, Myles, Georgie, Christopher, Justin and Shelby. Great-Grandchildren; 14, sister; Joyce Moore, brother; Earl Boortz and wife Treva, sister-in-law; Leslie Standlee, brother-in-law; Ronnie Sutton and wife Barbara and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; Ben Boortz, mother; Mable Boortz, sons; Billy Ben Boortz and Bret Allen Boortz.
Friends may pay their respect during visitation on Sunday, May 13, 2012 from 5PM to 7PM at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veteran Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. Services will be Monday, May 14 at 10:30 in the funeral home chapel with interment to follow at Houston National Cemetery.
