Obituary excerpt from the Manhattan Mercury, June 10, 1963

"Dr. A. A. Holtz, long time YMCA secretary and men's advisor at Kansas State University, died this morning at St. Mary Hospital.

Holtz is survived by his wife of the home at 711 Elling Drive and by three children.

. . . Holtz was graduated from Colgate University in 1909 and then attended the Univ. of Chicago, where he (earned) . . . a Bachelor's in theology, a masters in philosophy and a doctor of Philosophy.

Prior to WWI Holtz was director of religious education for the Baptist church for the State of Wisconsin, and he served as a chaplain during WWI, progressing to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the chaplain's reserve.

Holtz joined the K-State staff in the fall of 1919 as secretary of the College YMCA. He served as men's advisor, and as a professor of sociology and economics.

He was president of the Kansas council of Christian education, a state chaplain for the American Legion, minister of the 1st Baptist Church of Manhattan and the Zeandale church.

He was awarded a Distinguished Citizen citation by the Manhattan Kiwanis Club.
