Catherine was born less than two months before her father died. She was named for her paternal grandmother with whom her parents were residing in 1880. Benjamin Legett had served for a short time as a policeman in the 3rd precinct but had changed jobs and was listed as a clerk in the 1880 New Orleans Directory; he passed away at age 28 on January 4, 1881. Catherine and her mother, Bertha Mary (Larsen) Legett, moved into the home of her grandparents at 869 N. Rampart, where they shared with several of her Larsen uncles. Her mother married William A. O'Reilly in 1886, and the family grew with two more girls, Mary Alice (Nov 1886) and Bertha (Dec 1889) O'Reilly. Catherine married August Jacob Solbach on April 21, 1909, who was 8 years her junior. They had a son, Robert William Joseph, on February 27, 1911; their daughter, Bertha was born in January 1913; their son, August F. was born in April 1915; and their daughter, Catherine, in January 1918.
