Jabez Tracy Avery or Tracy, as he was known, was born on August 11, 1797 in Bridgewater, Oneida County, New York, a son of John Avery, Jr. and Elizabeth Tracy; he married Maria Winslow on January 12, 1823 in the town of Lyons, Wayne County, New York.
