Maria or Mariah Winslow was born on May 14, 1806 in Williston, Chittenden County, Vermont, a daughter of Jonathan and Polly (Spoor) Winslow; she married Jabez Tracy Avery on January 23, 1823 in the town of Lyons, Wayne County, New York; she died on November 17, 1883 in Chester, Howard County, Iowa and is buried in the Chester Hill Cemetery.
