US Congressman, Presidential Cabinet Secretary. Born in New Castle, New Castle County, Delaware but grew up in Washington, Pennsylvania. Graduated from Washington College (this later became Washington and Jefferson College). Served as a Representative from 1831 to 1839 and from 1842 to 1843. Served as the Secretary of the Interior for President Fillmore for a short time in 1850. Died in Reading, Pennsylvania.
