Effie G. Reed, 85, died April 16, 2003, in Ash Flat.

Born Sept. 30, 1916, in Hardy, she was the daughter of John R. Gillihan and Alice Porter Gillihan. She married Hugh Todd in Hardy in 1942. He preceded her in death in 1966. In 1983 she married Everett Reed in Thayer, Mo. He preceded her in death in 1989.

She was a homemaker and a member of Thayer Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Bill Toppings of Mammoth Spring, and Morris Toppings of San Antonio; a daughter, Mary Coggins of Ash Flat; a brother, Edmond Ray Gillihan of Supulpa, Okla.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a son, Marvin Dean Toppings; a daughter, Kathleen Todd; three brothers ? Leroy, Melvin and John Clay Gillihan; and two sisters, Bessie and Clessie.

The funeral was April 18 at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with the Rev. Melvin Haas officiating. Burial was in Thayer Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Carter Funeral Home Inc. of Thayer.

Pallbearer was Roger McCord.
