John A. Bush was the son of Alpheus Bush and Sarah LeForge Bush. He married 2 July 1807 his first cousin Sophia Bush, daughter of his uncle Isaac Bush, in Bridgewater Twp. Somerset County, NJ. His inscription at Scotchtown is just "Father, 1783-1863". Listed on the same monument is his wife, Sophia Bush (1791-1872); and children Isaac (1811-1879) with Isaac's wife Minerva (no dates); William Bush (1827-1846); George washington Bush (1833-1863); Lydia Bush McMillan (1816-1885); and Matilda Bush Babcock (1825-1892); two grandsons, Judson and Charles, sons of Isaac; Charles son of John LeForge Bush; Mary, daughter of Adelbert Glidden Bush & Wealthy Cole Bush.
