Kurt W. Troge loving husband, caring father, inspiring teacher, and most importantly, child of God, age 53, of 3726 Mackert Street, Manitowoc, WI, was called home on May 24, 2004, by his Heavenly Father to join all of the saints of Heaven to continue praising his Savior and Creator in a perfect place.

Visitation, will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2004, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Manitowoc Lutheran High School, 4045 Lancer Circle, Manitowoc, followed by the funeral service. Rev. David Beckman of Manitowoc Lutheran High School and Rev. Loren Lindeman of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where Kurt was a member, will officiate at this celebration of eternal life with burial to take place later at Evergreen Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are with the Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home, Manitowoc.

Kurt was born on September 20, 1950, in Appleton, Wis., son of Rev. Wilbur and the late Helen Brockdorf Troge. He graduated in 1969 from Fox Valley Lutheran High School in Appleton and spent his college years at Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm., Minn. graduating with a bachelor's degree in Education in 1973. On June 22, 1974, he married the former Debra Knief at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Watertown, Wis.

Kurt began his graduate work at Michigan State University-Lansing, continued at the University of North Florida-Jacksonville, and completed his master's degree in Secondary Education and Administration at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 1986.

Kurt began his teaching ministry in the Wisconsin Ev. Lutheran Synod as a tutor at Michigan Lutheran Seminary, Saginaw, Mich., from 1973 to 1975. In 1975, Kurt was called to start Christ Lutheran Grade School in Jacksonville, Fla., serving as the principal and fifth- through eighth-grade teacher. In 1990, Kurt accepted a call to be the guidance counselor, teacher of history and economics, and to coach at Northland Lutheran High School in Merrill, Wis., From 1988 to 1996, Kurt served Minnesota Lutheran High School in New Ulm, as its assistant principal and teacher. In 1996, Kurt continued his teaching ministry at Manitowoc Lutheran High School as principal, where he served in that capacity until June 2002. He resumed teaching in the fall of 2003, after a year of medical leave due to brain cancer, and taught until January of 2004 when the tumor returned. Throughout his ministry, Kurt touched thousands of lives by his love for teaching, and most importantly, his love for his Savior.

Kurt was an exemplary husband and father. For 29 years, Kurt guided the Troge family by his living example. During annual family camping vacations, late night talks around the campfire, fishing and hunting trips, golfing, family game nights, and family devotions, Kurt showed his continual love, care, guidance, and concern for his wife and five children.

Survivors include his wife, Deb and their children: Alicia, at home; Ben (Katy) and their daughter Skyler, Altamonte Springs, FL; Ryan, Milwaukee, Wis.; Tricia, Winona, MN, and Caleb, at home.

Kurt is also survived by his father, Rev. Wilbur Troge, Appleton, WI; his brother Eric (Arlyss) Troge, Hortonville, Wis.; three sisters: Christine Gallipeau, Houston, Tx; Melissa (Howard) Estervig, Waterloo, WI; and Gretchen (Steve) Gallo, St. Peter, IL; his mother-in-law, Elaine Knief, Watertown, WI; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Sara (Art) Piper, DePere, Wis.; Enno Knief, Janesville, Wis.; and Kim (Jim) Winters, Watertown, WI. Nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends also survive.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Troge; his father-in-law, Enno Knief, and his brother-in-law, Christopher Knief.

Kurt left a Christian legacy of leadership in every place and heart he touched. With God at his side, he faced every challenge, including the cancer that claimed his life after nearly two years. May God give each Christian the faith and trust and belief that our times are in His hands and that our lives are not ended on earth, but continued endlessly in Heaven,

The family sincerely thanks countless Christian friends for their continual prayers and acts of love and caring, including the employees and volunteers of the Holy Family Memorial Hospice. They thank God for His benevolent kindness to Kurt Troge on earth, allowing this Christian man to grow in faith and to show God's grace in his life. Blessed are those who die in the Lord.
