He was born in Copley, W.Va., a son of the late David and Mary (Davis) Cain.
He was a Baptist by faith. He retired from Walker and was a United States Army veteran having served in World War II. He enjoyed writing and had been writing poetry since he was 14.
He is survived by his daughter, Shannon Nelson of Belpre; six grandchildren, Tina, Joey, Mandie, Ian, Brian and Mark; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one brother, Franklin; two sisters, Ruth and Lula; and a special caregiver, Katie.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patty Casto; and seven brothers and sisters.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens with military honors by American Legion Post 15. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
