She grew up and attended schools in the Netherlands. When she was eleven years old she moved with her family to the United States and settled near Perkins, IA. Here she continued her education in the rural schools near Perkins. On September 23, 1921 she was united in marriage to Ben Kracht near Doon. Following their marriage they farmed at various locations in Lyon County. Ben died in 1965. On October 9, 1968 Jennie married Bert Veldkamp at Rock Rapids. They lived together in Rock Rapids until Bert’s death in 1979. Jennie continued to make her home in Rock Rapids until her sudden death at Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital.
Surviving were six children, Bert B. Kracht and Dick Kracht both of Luverne, MN; Jeanette Braasch of Minot, ND; Pete B. Kracht of Rock Rapids; Albertha Flatberg of Sioux Falls, SD; and Henrietta Wirtjes of Garretson, SD. Also surviving were sixteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, along with ten step-children and many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, two husbands, a son in infancy, a granddaughter, five brothers and two sisters.
