He was born to Ove and Mary (Benson) Aasum. He was the sixth of eight children.
He attended the Mabel Public School.
On Jan. 31, 1929, he married Mildred Anderson at Hesper.
He farmed in Winneshiek County and in Fillmore County before retiring and moving to Mabel.
She died on Aug. 31, 1966.
After retiring he enjoyed working with wood and building furniture.
He was a lifelong member of the Hesper Lutheran Church where he was baptized, confirmed and married.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four brothers and one sister.
