Elsie Jane Churchman

A gathering will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 25, 1999, in the Vancouver, Wash., home of Cheryl Zander for Elsie Jane Churchman, who died June 21 at age 93.

Mrs. Churchman was born Sept. 25, 1905, in Altoona, Wash., and was raised in Vancouver. Her maiden name was Craine. She was a telephone operator, a butter packer for Swift & Co., a cookie packer for Sunshine Cookies, a chocolate dipper and a merchandiser in the collectible dish department for Goodwill Industries until her retirement in the late 1960s. In her early years, she also sang for
various churches. She was a member of St. David's Episcopal Church. In 1933, she married Harold M.; he died in 1950.

Survivors include her daughters, Phyllis Erbes of Redmond, Shirley Rae Churchman of Portland and Sharon Klotz of Beaverton; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Private interment will be in Park Hill Cemetery in Vancouver. The family suggests remembrances to Shriners Hospitals for Children or the Oregon Humane Society. Arrangements are by Aftercare Cremation & Burial Service.

Vancouver High School graduate Elsie Jane Churchman, 93, died in Portland on Monday, June 21, 1999.

Mrs. Churchman was one of the first telephone operators. She also worked for Sunshine Cookies and Swift & Co. and dipped chocolates. Mrs. Churchman last worked for Goodwill Industries.

She was a member of Order of Eastern Star.

She was born Sept. 25, 1905, in Altoona, Wash. Her maiden name was Craine.

Survivors include three daughters, Phyllis Erbes of Redmond, Ore., Shirley Churchman of Portland and Sharon Klotz of Beaverton, Ore.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

There will be an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday at her granddaughter's home, 515 W. 35th St. Burial will be in Park Hill Cemetery in Vancouver.
