22 May 1941 - The Lowden News

Mrs John Bunge, 79, a resident of Cedar county for over seventy years, passed away about 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the home of her daughter, Mrs Chris Kroemer, in Stanwood. She had been afflicted with heart trouble for several years and several months ago her condition became critical.

The body was later removed to the home of her daughter, Mrs John Hein, in Lowden, where a brief prayer service was held preceding the funeral services at 1:45 p.m. yesterday in Trinity Lutheran church. The Rev. E. F. Hempel of Stanwood had charge of the English services and the Rev. H. Maas of Lowden conducted the German services.

Six grandsons, Lawrence Kroemer, Erhard Kroemer, Albert Hein, Aaron Hein, Melvin Wiebel and Gerald Hein, served as pallbearers. Leora Hein, Helen Hein, Hildegard Kroemer, Florence Bunge, Gertrude Bunge and Marjorie Bunge, all granddaughters of the deceased, had charge of the flowers.

Born in Davenport Aug. 25, 1861, Carolyn Hintz came to Lowden with her parents only a few years later. The family settled on a farm northwest of Lowden where she spent her childhood years. She attended Trinity school and was confirmed in 1875.

On Feb. 20, 1884, she was married to John Bunge and they settled on the home farm. Of the nine children born to them, one preceded the mother in death. In 1933 Mr and Mrs Bunge retired and moved to Lowden, after having lived on the same farm 49 years. Since the death of her husband in 1935, Mrs Bunge has made her home with her daughter, Mrs Chris Kroemer in Stanwood, visiting among her other children during the summer months.

Surviving are three sons, Albert of Bennett; John of Odebolt; and Emil of Mechanicsville; five daughters, Lydia (Mrs Chris Kroemer) of Stanwood; Anna (Mrs Henry Kroemer) of Lowden; Caroline (Mrs Paul Hein) of Bennett; Eleanore (Mrs John Hein) of Lowden; and Olga (Mrs Fred Wiebel) of Lowden; 27 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; also one half-brother.
