9 September 1910 - The Lowden News

Carl Bunge got kicked by a horse Wednesday evening and as a sad result thereof the young man died this morning at 4 o'clock.

Carl was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Bunge. He was only 20 years, 5 months and 14 days old. He worked this summer for their neighbor, August Schroeder. We understand Carl was haltering a colt and being in reach of another horse, this other horse, although not otherwise in the habit of kicking, kicked at Carl hitting him in the abdomen. He, after the accident, crawled away toward the house for quite a distance, when found by Mr. Schroeder, who took him to the house.

Physicians were hastily summoned. Everything possible was done, but the internal injuries, which had been considered dangerous from the start, proved to strong an obstacle for any human aid.

The young man died at the home of August Schroeder about 5 miles southwest of Lowden. As the sad news spread quickly around this town this morning, everybody was appalled and stood in awe at the suddenness of the appearance of death. All sympathize deeply with the bereaved family.

Funeral will be held Monday forenoon at 10 o'clock from the house, followed by services at the Lutheran church at Lowden.

Carl Bunge was born near Lowden on March 26th, 1890. He died on Friday morning, September 9th, at the home of August Schroeder, five miles northwest of Lowden, at the age of 20 years, 5 months and 14 days.

His death was the sad result of an accident as we reported last week. On Wednesday evening, Sept. 7th, Carl was haltering a colt and being in reach of another horse, this other horse, although not otherwise in the habit of kicking, kicked at Carl hitting him in the abdomen. He, after the accident, crawled away toward the house for quite a distance, when found by Mr. Schroeder, who took him to the house.

Physicians were hastily summoned. Everything possible was done, but the internal injuries, which had been considered dangerous from the start, proved too strong an obstacle for any human aid.

The young man was working this summer for Mr. Schroeder, who resides but a quarter mile from the home of Carl's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Bunge. Members of the family and other near relatives were at the Schroeder home after the accident, all willing to help, but very little any person could do besides taking tender care of the boy in his last hours.

Carl was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Bunge. He was an exemplary young man and all who knew him liked him. Besides his grief stricken parents there survive to mourn the boy's demise two sisters and one brother and many other near relatives.

The funeral occurred Monday with services at the Lutheran church and interment in the Lutheran cemetery. Rev. Brammer conducted the services. The pall bearers were Otto Schluter, Paul Kroemer, Henry Meseke, Gustav Licht, Herman Meier and Adolph Klipp and the Misses Mary and Tobea Brammer, Anna Schwaegermann and Marie Licht carried the vast lot of beautiful flowers. The funeral services were very impressive and the attendance at the funeral was as large as any we have ever seen here, showing in what high esteem the departed was held, and also great sympathy for the bereaved family.
