August 1946 — Returns to the Gridiron. Listed as an outstanding prospect for the Husky football line-up in September is Tom Holcomb, according to J. W. Perry, superintendent of school. The prospects for the team success is described as “fair,” leaving the problem squarely up to newly hired coach, John Hower. May 1948 — Selected. Tom Holcomb is one of seventy-two high school gridders nominated to the east squad for the annual Idaho high school east-west football game next fall in Boise. The players come from districts four, five and six in eastern and south central Idaho. The final squad would be trimmed to 24. November 1956 — Potato Grower. Tom Holcomb among the 455 east Idaho Potato growers whose field was accepted for certification by the Idaho Crop Improvement Assn. November 1962 — Officers Installed. Installation of new officers of the Ashton Rod and Gun club was held on Friday, November 9 in the Lions club room. January 2013 - Passage. Thomas "Tom" Leslie Holcomb, 83, of Ashton, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2013, at his home of natural causes.

NATIVE OF IDAHO. He was born Dec. 15, 1929, in Emmett, Idaho, to William Newton and Erna Elise Steinmann Holcomb. He attended school in Emmett through the fourth grade. His family then moved to Ashton where he finished grade school and graduated from Ashton High School in 1948. He married Donna Quinn Davis on Aug. 16, 1948. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple. Donna died on Sept. 10, 1990.

FARMER. Tom worked farming for Jack Steinman and Dan Reimann until he and Donna purchased their own farm in 1956. They raised potatoes and grain. In 1988, he retired from farming. After retiring, he and Donna enjoyed traveling. He loved fishing and spent a lot of time fishing with his friends and family. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on May 14, 1991, and enjoyed his association with the members of his ward.

SURVIVORS. He is survived by his children, Thomas Quinn (Deborah) Holcomb of Idaho Falls, Kathleen (Jerry) Johnson of Idaho Falls; a brother, Jim (Ona Lee) Holcomb of Ashton; four granddaughters, Stephanie, Marci, Kristen and Jaime; four grandsons, Drex, Curtis, Cory and Jeremy; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Donna, four sisters and a brother.

SERVICES. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Ashton 4th Ward Chapel with Bishop James Hawkes officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Baxter Funeral Home, 717 Main Street, in Ashton and Saturday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Pineview Cemetery. -From the files of
