Alfred M. Baron, 81, passed away October 4, 2005 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. He was born December 10, 1923 in Utica, a son of Adam and Stella Zysk Baron, and educated in Utica schools. Alfred was united in marriage to the former Marjorie Killian in February 1947 at Holy Trinity Church, a caring and devoted relationship of 58 years. He was a machinist at General Electric, retiring in 1986 after 34 years of service. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran and served in WWII as a B-17 tailgunner. He participated in several battles in the Pacific Theater, including the battles of Papua, Coral Sea, Bismarck Archipelago, Leyte Gulf and the Philippines Liberation. He was a member of the Leon Roberts Post 161 American Legion, and Boonville VFW Post 5538. Alfred is survived by his wife, Marjorie; two daughters, Christine Staley of Yorkville, and Irene Grimshaw of Front Royal, VA; a brother and sister-in-law, Edmund and Helen Baron of Rochester; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Elaine Killian of Holland Patent; grandchildren, Angeline Deavers, Garrett Grimshaw and wife, Teresa, Kevin Staley and wife, Renee; great-granddaughter, Laurice Killian Williams; and several special nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by three sisters, Alfreda Beil, Adamena Harrer and Virginia Ball. A graveside service will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Fairchild Cemetery, Remsen. Utica OD, 10/5/2005
