Maud Elizabeth Surrarrer (nee Talbot), 88 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Friday, July 20, 2011, at Elms Retirement Center in Wellington following a lengthy illness. She was born March 12, 1923, in Cleveland

Maud had been a lifetime resident of Amherst and graduated from Brownhelm High School. She continued her education at the Oberlin School of Business and received her teaching degree at Kent State.

Maud was employed as an elementary school teacher with the Firelands School District for many years. She was a member of Henrietta United Methodist Church. Maud was a member of the Ohio State Teachers Retirement organization.

Her hobbies included traveling, reading and watching travelogues on TV. Maud loved spending time with her family and grandchildren and her two cats "Trouble and Callie".
Survivors include her daughters Sharon Surrarrer of Arvada, Colorado,Gail Johns and her husband, Gary of Cary, North Carolina; her niece Barbara McNeil of Elyria, eleven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-three years, Merle Surrarrer on August 21, 2008; her stillborn son robert Lee Surrarrer in 1947; her sister Dora Morris; and by her parents George E and Bertha Talbot (nee Swinehart).

Friends may call Monday August 1, 2011, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Armando Arellano, pastor of Henrietta United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Brownhelm Cemetery, Brownhelm Township.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to American Diabetes Association; 4500 Rockside Road, Independence, OH 44131.
