ASHTON - Gerald P. Horton, 82, of Ashton, died Friday at Franklin Grove Nursing Home in Franklin Grove.
Horton was born Sept. 17, 1929 in Buda to Andrew and Gertrude (Philhower) Horton. He graduated from Buda High School in 1947, and married Elizabeth Ann Reid of Sheffield on June 20, 1953. He retired from Burlington Northern Railroad in 1989.
He served in the Navy as a machinist 3rd Class on the USS Missouri. He received the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Medal, and the Navy Occupation (European Clasp) Service Medal.
He was a member of the Roscoe VFW.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Ann Horton of Ashton; a brother, Lloyd (Ann) Horton of Tularosa, N.M.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Leslie, Floyd and Max Horton; and a sister, Elizabeth Horton.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grant-Johnson Funeral Home in Princeton. A graveside service will follow at 11 a.m. at Hopeland Cemetery in Buda, with the Rev. Jack Briggs officiating. Military rites will be performed by Buda American Legion No. 261.
Memorials may be made to Ashton Fire and Rescue.
