Funeral Is Held Friday Morning for Jesse Green

Marshall County paid final tribute to Jesse Howard Green, Friday morning (April 1, 1949). He was one of the victims in the Warren Petroleum company plant explosion last Wednesday night.

The huge crowd which filled the Methodist Church here to overflowing and the large number of friends who gathered on the outside of the church because there was no room inside for them was indication of the popularity of the man. The floral display was one of the largest ever seen in to local church. Approximately, one-third of the auditorium was banked with flowers.

Singing for the service was by the Methodist Church choir which sang " Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "God's Tomorrow". "Going Home" was used as the recessional, was played as a violin solo by Mrs. Norvell Beard, accompanied by Mrs. Burton Livengood at the organ.

The service was conducted by the Reverend Howard Bush, Pastor of the Methodist Church assisted by the Reverend A.A. Puckett of Little City and the Reverend Olaf Hoggard. In the service, the Rev. Mr. Bush took as his text the 14th Chapter of John. He pointed out that the dominant question of the Old Testament was that "If a man dies, shall he live again?" and Jesus answer to this question was, "Let not your heart be troubled. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there you may be also."

The pastor pointed out that in Mr. Green's last conversation with those about him he spoke of love instead of pain. He spoke tenderly of the love for his family, the love for his friends, and his love for God. That admonition to his kin and to his friends was to always be Christlike.

"I have never heard the triumph of eternal life ring from the soul of a man as it rang from the soul of this, our brother", the Pastor said. "His going was not like a stranger going into a strange land, but like a son, hearing the call of his Father and returning to his home. He has returned, to the homeland of his soul."

Mr. Green was born April 19, 1902. He united with the church as a young man, and has been active in religious work ever since. He had been a steward in the church for more than 20 years. He had served as Sunday School Superintendent, a teacher in the church school, a member of the choir, a soloist and a lay leader.

He had been employed with the Warren Petroleum Company since its organization. He moved to Madill when the company built a plant east of town in 1943 and later moved to Warren Camp. He was employed as chief chemist for the company. While living here (Madill, OK) and more recently while he lived at Warren Camp, he was active in civic and social affairs in Madill.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Charlie Joe and Carol Jane. He also is survived by three brothers, George Green of Shawnee, Jim Green of Dana Point, California and W. F. Green of Cushing. Five surviving sisters and Mrs. Bessie Foreman of Cushing, Mr. O. B. Carrington of Ponca City, Mrs J. L. Lassaiter of Lichart, Texas, Mrs. W. H. Boland of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Mrs. Charles Combs of Yale, OK.

Burial services were at the Resthaven Cemetery, near Shawnee at 2:30 P.M. Monday afternoon. (April 1, 1949.)
