DIED

Mary Miller was born at Gallipolis, Ohio, Feb. 9, 1834. While she was still a young child her parents moved to Elkhart County, Indiana, where she grew to womanhood. August 4, 1850, she was married to Moses Mitchell at Goshen, Indiana. In the spring of 1858, they moved to Bradford, Iowa, in the hope that the change of climate would benefit Mrs. Mitchell's health, which was at that time in a very serious condition. Her health improved rapidly, and a year later they moved to Nashua, Iowa, where they lived until 1885, when a change was determined upon for the benefit of Mr. Mitchell's health, and in May of that year they moved to Peabody, Kansas. Seven years later, July 6, 1892, she was left a widow by the death of Mr. Mitchell.

The deceased leaves eight living children: Mrs. Sarah Hawkins of Nashua, Iowa; Mrs. Mary Stocks of Buffalo, Wyoming; Mrs. Maria Stevens of Peabody, Kansas; Mrs. Ellen Ferris of Cedar Falls, Iowa; John A. Mitchell of Nashua, Iowa; Pleasant J. Mitchell of Cedar Point, Kansas; Mrs. Minnie Norris of Burlington, Kansas; and Ulysses Mitchell of Lawrence, Kansas. One other daughter, Mrs. Susan Barber, died over 20 years ago.

Mrs. Mitchell united with the Methodist church early in life and lived an earnest, prayerful Christian until her death in Burlington, Kansas, April 11th, 1906. She was a faithful wife, a kind and loving mother, and a generous, useful woman loved by all who knew her.

The remains were brought here for burial in Prairie Lawn Cemetery, and the funeral services were held in the Methodist church Saturday afternoon, Rev. Switzer preaching the sermon. All of her children except Mrs. Stocks and Mrs. Ferris were present at the funeral; also a granddaughter, Miss Ethel Hawkins, and a sister of Mrs. Mitchell, Mrs. Sarah Shannon of Nashua, Iowa, and Dr. Norris, a son-in-law, of Burlington, Kansas.
