He died in the Allegheny County Home in O'Hara Township, where he spent the last 46 days of his life. Cause of death was exhaustion and decubitus (bed sores) of one month duration, with paretic dementia (caused by syphilis) of eight years duration as a contributory cause. He was buried October 17, 1910.

In 1860 he lived with his parents and four siblings (his brother James got missed by the census taker) in a house in Ward 3 in Allegheny, PA. His father worked as an upholsterer, and owned personal property worth $25.

In 1870 he and his mother and five siblings lived in Ward 2 in Allegheny. She owned real property worth $2000 and personal property worth $150.

In 1880 he and his wife and their two daughters--Elizabeth S "Bessie", age 3, and Florence Lois, age 1--lived in a house on East Diamond Street in Allegheny, PA. He worked as an upholsterer.

In 1900 he and Mary and their three daughters lived in a place they were renting in Ward 2 in Allegheny, PA. He worked as the manager of a carpet cleaning company, Elizabeth worked as a school teacher, and Florence was a musical student.

In 1910 he and his wife and their youngest daughter, Ethel, born in July 1887, lived in a house they were renting at 1708 Termon Avenue in Pittsburgh, PA. Ethel worked as a stenographer in an office. They also had a boarder, 35-year-old Lucie Goodwin.
