Fay Olin Colby was born to Clarence Colby and Minnie Moser Colby. The family homesteaded land outside of Maysdorf, Wyoming , a small settlement south of the Town of Gilette. They lived in a small cabin and hauled their water from a nearby pond. When Fay was about 5, his mother, Minnie passed away and his father Clarence moved his children back to their original home of Riverton, Nebraska. Fay was a natural musician, according to his brother Delmar. He was known to pick up a guitar and work out a tune easily. Fay married Miss Viola Beebe and had five daughters, establishing a dairy farm outside of Longview, Washington. Ater his daughters were grown, he moved the family into town.
