Mr. Hammerslough graduated from Springfield High School and attended the University of Illinois. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the owner of the Record Room. He worked in the Land Acquisition Department of the Department of Transportation, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Temple B'rith Shalom, Bnai B'rith, Board of Realtors, Jaycees, American Business Club, Noon Optimist Club, Pasfield Men's Golf Club and Sangamo Club. He served on the corporation board at Memorial Medical Center for 25 years, where he also volunteered for the Gold Club and served as a Red Coat. He was an adviser of the local SCORE group and a volunteer for the mayor's Commission of International Visitors. He was a charter member of Lincoln Land Academy of Life Long Learning and an adviser for the Pill Rollers.
Survivors: wife, Irene; a son of Arizona; two daughters of California and Chatham; and five grandchildren.
Services: Bisch and Son Funeral Home, Rabbi Michael Datz and Rabbi Barry Marks officiating. Burial: Oak Ridge Cemetery.
