Mary Ines Jones Phelps, 89, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, at a Preston nursing home following an extended illness.

She was born September 10, 1887 at Dayton to Paimenas Taylor Jones and Mary Jane Miles. She was the sixth child in a family of 15 and was the last survivor of that family.

She married Heber John Phelps August 9, 1909 in Paris. The marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple August 31, 1927.

She was an active member of the LDS Church and was also a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She taught school for many years. Her husband died in January of 1962.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Maurice (Virginia) Beck of Ovid, three grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren, and one foster son, Raymond Jones of Ventura Calif.

Two additional grandchildren preceded her in death.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Dec. 11, at 1 p.m. in the Liberty LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Don Hemmert conducting. Interment was in the Montpelier Cemetery.

Dedication of the grave was by Joseph Weston and pallbearers were Gary Jorgensen, Michael Weston, John Beck, Ted Weston, Grover Phelps and Raymond Jones.

Flowers were under the direction of the Liberty Ward Relief Society and the services were under the direction of Matthews Mortuary.

The family prayer was by Grover Phelps, invocation was by LaThair Petersen and benediction was by Junior Beck.

The prelude and postlude music was by Nina Sorenson. A sextette, consisting of Lorene Roberts, Ann Matthews, Doris Gambling, Nina Sorenson, Julie Johnson and Ruth Wallentine, sang “Abide With Me, ‘Tis Eventide.”

Ruth Wallentine sang “In My Father’s House Are Many Mansions,” and Joseph Weston sang “A Perfect Day.”

The obituary was presented by Anita Weston, remarks were by Bishop Don Hemmert and speaker was Mrs. Jay Nelson.

An organ medley was presented by Nina Sorenson.
