ETHEL RUTH GREGG

Houston, MS- Ethel Ruth Gregg died Sunday August 28, 2016 at her home after a long illness. She was 97 years old. She was born March 21, 1919 in Slate Springs to John Thomas Gregg, Jr. and Cora Alice Spencer Gregg.

She was a 1937 graduate of Slate Springs High School and then graduated from Copiah Lincoln Junior College in 1939. In 1942 she was one of the few selected to work for the US Army Signal Corp during WWII. From there she began her 36 year long career with RCA where she retired in 1982 as a Market Data Analyst. Throughout her life she continued her education and graduated from New York University, traveled extensively inside the US and 12 foreign countries, was active in her church where ever she lived holding positions as Deaconist, Music Minister and organist. While living in Newark, NJ, she was a member of the historical Peddy Church. Upon her retirement to Houston, MS she became a very active member of the 1st United Methodist Church where she was the organist from time to time.

Family “get togethers”, entertaining her many friends with elaborate dinner parties, taking care of her home and yard kept her busy throughout the years while her health was strong.

Services will be Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church of Houston with Bro. Jimmy Vance officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 1:00 pm until time of service at 2:00 pm. Burial will be at Bethany Cemetery in Webster County. Memorial Funeral Home in Houston is in charge of the arrangements.

Surviviors include nieces and nephews, Mary Frances Gregg Davis of Houston, MS, Bonnita Gregg Boyd of Jackson, MS, LaDerle Doler of Calhoun City, MS, Harvey G. Gregg of Montgomery, AL, Joseph D. Gregg of Eupora, MS and Frank D. Gregg of Houston, MS, many great nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents, John Thomas Gregg, Jr. and Cora Alice Spencer Gregg, her sister, Rosalee Gregg Doler, her brother, James Earnest Gregg, niece, Marion Erlene Parker Gregg and nephew James E Gregg, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to, Palmer Home for Children, Post Office Box 746 Columbus, MS 39703.
