Birthplace, Belliclone, Madderty, Perth, Scotland. Alexander Magruder "The Immigrant" arrived in what is now Maryland from Scotland as an indentured servant in 1652. He later became a big landowner and tobacco farmer. He died and was buried at his home at "Anchovie Hills", which was located southeast of what is now Magruder's Ferry and Croom Rd., Brandywine, MD. At that time, Brandywine was called Baden and was in Calvert county, but is now in Prince George's county. He was the ancestor of virtually all white Magruders in America (we are still researching African American descents). For more information about Alexander and Magruders history, go to

His headstone has not been found, that I know of, and the site is on a private wildlife refuge now.
