Funeral Services For E. R. Nagel To Be Friday


Funeral Services For E. R. Nagel To Be Friday, September 15, at 10 a.m. at the Seydler Funeral Chapel.


He passed away September 13, at 9:30 p.m. at the age of 86 years, 10 months and 25 days. He was born October 18, 1858, in Guadalupe county, and has also lived in Seguin. On November 12, 1898, he united in marriage with Milhernine Nagel. He has been a life long member of the Baptist church, and is a retired contractor.


He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ernest Nagel, six daughters, Bettie, Sophie and Meta of Houston, Mrs. Charles and Paul Adlof of Gonzales, and Mrs. Henry Landbeck, and three sons, Arthur of San Antonio, Rudolph and Hilmer of Gonzales.

E. R. Nagel was born October 18, 1858, at Schumanville, Texas, and later resided near Seguin. He was married to Miss Hulda Kaiser in 1880 and four daughters were born to this union, one of whom died in infancy.


About 1885 Nagel moved to Gonzales county. In 1888 his wife died and he remarried in 1898 to Mrs. Mina Starrach Lillage. Three sons and one daughter were born to this union.


In 1920 he gave up farming, moved to town and took up the trade as a building contractor. He joined the Methodist church in early youth and remained a member of same until his death.


Nagel passed away September 13, 1944, at 9:30 p.m. and funeral services were conducted from the Seydler Funeral Chapel on September 15 at 10 a.m. Interment was in the City cemetery.


Officiating ministers were Revs. K. C. Minter, W. Wolf and William Sievers. Songs for the funeral services were "Rock of Ages" "What A friend We Have in Jesus" and "In the Sweet Bte and Bye."


Pallbearers were Charlie Holmes Joe and Herman Schultz, Edgar and Eugene Lang and Eugene Adolf.


Nagel is survived by his wife four daughters , Bettie, Meta and Sophia Nagel of Houston and Mrs. Henry Landbeck of Gonzales, three sons, Arthur of San Antonio, Ruddolph and Hilmar of Gonzales; two step-daughters, Mrs. Paul and Charles Adlof also of Gonzales and nine grandchildren.


Out of town attendants to the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Nagel and two daughters Marie Faith and Elizabeth, Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Nagel, Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Echkermann and son Raymond, Adolph Sahm, F. J. Landbeck, Miss Gussie McLane, all of San Antonio, Cpl. and Mrs. Donald Bey of Laredo, Texas.


Mrs. Louis Nagel, Mrs. Wesley Koepsel, Mrs. Hugo Schmitt, Mrs. J. F. Seagert, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Ficher of Seguin, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Straach Sr. and Otto Straach Jr. of Rowena, Edgar Straach Jr. and son Murel, Charlie and Reimer Straach and Waldermar Ehrig of Miles, Texas.


Mr. and Mrs. Otto Hierholzer and sons of Floresville, Misses Bettie, Meta and Sophia Nagel and Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Adlof of Houston.
