Esther Melton Music Batten, 70, of Waycross died Monday evening (May 7, 2012) at Baptist Village after an extended illness.
She was born in Waycross to the late David Layton and Corine Martin Melton and lived here all of her life. Ms. Batten worked at Tuten's Bakery along with her first husband, Leroy Music. They worked at night cooking donuts and cakes. She also worked at the Waycross Shopper for several years. Ms. Batten was a member of West Carswell Baptist Church and enjoyed cooking.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Leroy Music; one daughter, Margaret Price; one grandson, David Hewett; one brother, Tim Melton; three sisters, Evelyn Crews, Lois O'Berry, and Donnie Cruce.
Survivors include her significant other of many years, Henry Crawford of Waycross; two daughters, Lynette Beaty of Manor, Belinda Morgan and her husband Craig of Waycross; six grandchildren, Macy Price of Waycross, Donnie Price of Waycross, Donnie Lankford and his wife Melissa of Waycross, James Lankford and his wife April of Ohio, Brande Hewett of Brunswick, Rachael Justice and her husband Gene of Alma; ten great-grandchildren; her twin sister, Alice Music of Waycross, two sisters, Dollie Carter and her husband Billy of Racepond, Diane Courson and her husband Travis of Blackshear; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held Thursday morning at 11 am at West Carswell Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Hoboken Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 – 8 pm at the funeral home.
