William THOMPSON

d. 1852


note:
The inscription on the gravestone reads: In memory of William Thompson died Sept 13th 1852 in his 53rd year.
Most information I find states that William was b. in 1806, and was 46 yrs. old when he died. If he died in his 53rd yr., 1806 is not correct. The date of death on the stone IS correct, and various family members DO believe that these are William and Hannah's burial sites.
It is not uncommon for gravestone inscriptions to be incorrect.

He was born in Maryland, the son of George Thompson b. 1763 and Henrietta Kenton, and married Hannah Howard b. abt. 1808, on the 18th of Jan. 1827, in Burke County, North Carolina.)

The 1830 Census has William in the 1st & 2nd Regiments, Burke, NC.
Note: William was a coporal in the regular army during the Indian Wars for 5 years.
