Hazel Mae Oglethorpe Pierce, 86, of Ragley, LA died on Sunday, May 6, 2012 in a local hospital.


Mrs. Pierce was born May 13, 1925 in Kingsville, TX and lived in Ragley, LA for the past forty-three years, where she attended Squyres United Methodist Church for thirty-five years. She was a Girl Scout for forty-five years and started the first cadette troop in Lake Charles. She was raised on a Texas ranch where she raised and showed cattle in 4-H. She loved to ride horses and work the cattle. She has had a lifelong love for horses. In the past few years, she enjoyed watching her great-grandchildren rodeo and ride their horses. She also enjoyed needlework, crocheting, gardening, and loved music.


Mrs. Pierce is survived by her daughter, Linda Susan Pierce Stineff; sister, Dorothy Nathey Stanley; grandchildren, Jesse Stineff, Heather Stineff Baggett, Carl Pierce, and Jennifer Pierce; and great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Kaleb Baggett, Cody, Kelly, and Kortney Stineff, and Brady and Abigail Pierce.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Howard Pierce, Sr.; mother, Francis Mae Fundaburk Nathey; father, Ethan Alburta Oglethorpe; son, Richard Howard Pierce, Jr.; son-in-law, Kenneth Wayne Stineff; and siblings, Alice Alta Oglethorpe McCain and Harold Raymond Nathey.


Her funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Squyres United Methodist Church in Longville, LA, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Reverend Heather H. Leyland will officiate. Burial will follow in Squyres-Risinger Memorial Park in Longville, LA. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and continue on Wednesday at the church from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
