C. Martine McCartney, 85, passed away April 25, 2012, at Akron City Hospital, after a brief illness.

Martine was born Dec. 17, 1926, in Muhlberg County, Ky., to John and Ivy Rock, and married Robert McCartney on Aug. 22, 1954. He preceded her in death.

Surviving are children, David (Diane) McCartney of Holmesville, Cathy (Rich) Hoffer of Arizona, Beth McCartney of Mentor and Don (Sherry) McCartney of Shreve; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mabel Parker of Wooster.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Rock, Hen and Pete; and sisters, Beck Maxwell and Beulah Brooks.

Martine retired as executive secretary from Ohio Agricultural Research & Development Center, and was owner/operator of Green Arrow Farm with her spouse. She was a founding member of Ripley Garden Club and was a part of winning a state award for the development of Hastings Point. She participated in several bowling leagues and scored numerous 600 series and over. She met with her graduating class (Wooster 1945) monthly for lunch.

She was a world traveler, and visited Hawaii, the northwest and northeast USA, enjoyed a Rose Bowl Parade in California and enjoyed several family vacations at Holden Beach, N.C. Overseas travel included trips to Australia, New Zealand, The Holy Land, Egypt, Great Britain, Scotland, Italy, Sicily and she viewed the 2000 Oberammergau on her visit to Austria, Switzerland and Germany.

A service of remembrance will be Saturday, May 12 at 11 a.m. at Shreve Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Christopher P. Stewart officiating. The family may be called on one hour prior to the services.

Private family interment will be in Hopewell Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Ripley Garden Club, in care of Jane Bilek, 7869 County Road 51, Shreve 44676, to improve and maintain the Hastings Point project; or Hopewell Presbyterian Church, 6900 State Route 754, Shreve 44676.
