Gertrude was b. Jan 20, 1859, Windsor, ME, to Alvan M. C. Heath and Sarah Philbrook. Her grandfather was Dr. Asa Heath. Her father was the founder of the Gardiner (ME) "Home Journal." He died in the Civil War at Fredericksburg, Dec. 16, 1862. Gertrude earned her degree in Homeopathic Medicine at Hahnemann Medical College, Chicago, 1884. She established her practice in Gardiner, ME, in 1884. Prior to 1900 she shared a practice with Dr. Hulda Potter. For seven years was the Second Asst. Physician, at Maine Insane Hosp., Augusta, and on staff at the Gardiner Hosp., and four yrs as Gardiner school physician. During WWI was director of the local American Red Cross. Active member of the Maine Homeopathic Society.
