CORPUS CHRISTI - Army Spc. Andy Alaniz (20)killed in Iraq by friendly fire on one of the last days of the Persian Gulf War called Desert Storm. Alaniz was one of the four killed during the war from the Texas Coastal Bend, and the only one killed from Corpus Christi.
Alaniz graduated in 1989 from Moody High School in Corpus Christi, where he was a member of the Trojan Drama Club. He enlisted after graduation and was assigned to the 24th Infantry Division.
He married Catherine Lee of Eagle Pass in June, a few weeks before he was sent to the Persian Gulf. The couple's first child was born on May 13, 1991.
Alaniz is survived by his wife, Catherine Lee Alaniz, a daughter Andee Annette Medearis Alaniz,and his parents, Teresa and Cecilo Alaniz.
