Henry was the eldest child of Luman and Experience (Sherman) Crittenden. He married Sophia S.Stowell August 11, 1852 in Albion, MI. The greater part of Henry's life was spent as a produce dealer and grain and wool buyer. He was one of the founders of the Republican Party "under the oaks" at Jackson. He served for 2 yrs. as deputy oil inspector in the ninth district. He was treasurer of Albion twp. 1861-65 and 1871-72 and a member of the village council in about 1887.
