Leo Michael Jensen was born on June 17, 1892, to Jens and Annie Jensen in Richfield, Utah. Around 1906, John Wolff Werner, owner of the JW Werner Clothing Company, invited him to work with his brother Joe in the clothing store in Richfield. They were very successful and ran the store when the owner was away. Leo was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Richfield. When his father died of cancer in October of 1913 the sons had to provide for the family.

In the summer of 1915 Leo went on a long trip to Hawaii. His first time away from home. When J.W. Werner passed away in December of 1915 he left money to Joe and Leo in his will. Enough so they could establish Jensen Brothers Clothing Store in Richfield in 1916. Then in 1917 Leo went to work for his friend Charley Skougaard helping build the first lodge at Fish Lake. As payment, Leo asked for logs to build a cabin at Fish Lake. He would work on it during the week with help from his brother Ches while Joe ran the store and brought up supplies on the week end.

On April 28, 1918, Leo was drafted into the US Army, becoming part of the 91st ‘Wild West' Division, Company B, 348 Machine Gun Battalion. After training at Camp Lewis, Washington, they left for France in July 1918.

On September 29, 1918, near Eclys Fontaine, France, in the Battle of the Argonne Forest, he was killed in action by German artillery fire while his machine gun battalion fight back a German counter offensive.

After being interred in two different cemeteries in France, his body was returned to Richfield and buried with full military honors on September 16, 1921, in the family plot. His casualty and war risk insurance provided a large enough monthly payment to support his mother until her passing in 1941.
