STOCKTON, Ill. -- Wayne E. Beeth, 78, of Stockton, died Saturday, May 5, 2012, at the Monroe Manor.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Hermann Funeral Home, Stockton, where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 7. Internment will be in Ladies Union Cemetery, Stockton.

Wayne was born on Aug. 29, 1933, in Pontiac, Ill., son of the late Erwin and Vera (During) Beeth. He was a 1951 graduate of Paxton High School.

He married Barbara Tappan on May 24, 1953.

He served in the 503rd Airborne out of Fort Campbell, Ky., from 1953 to 1955. He was a member of the Stockton American Legion Post 449 and the Plum River Masonic Lodge 544.

Wayne worked for NiCor Gas Co from 1956 to 1993. He started in Paxton and was transferred to Stockton in 1962.

He served on the Stockton School Board from 1969 to 1975 and worked the "Chain Gang" for Stockton Football games. He served on the Stockton Fire Department from 1966 to 1993, Northern Illinois Mutual Aid and was the fire fighters secretary from May 3, 1973, to June 1990. He was a St. Louis Cardinals fan and had enjoyed coaching the Little League "Cardinals."

Surviving are his wife, Barbara; a son, Mike (Theresa) Beeth, of Oshkosh, Wis.; a daughter, Deborah Mackey, of Dubuque; four grandchildren, Charity Beeth, of Dubuque, Kim Mackey, of Davenport, Iowa, Quentin Beeth and Eva Beeth, both of Oshkosh; two great-grandchildren, Heather and R.J. Maltry, both of Dubuque, and one more to be in June; two sisters, Jean Anderson, of Paxton, and Joan (Ronald) Billerbeck, of Peoria; and brother, Daryl Beeth, of Mahomet.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Rob.
