MECHANICSBURG, Pa. - Bernard W. Ryan, 82, of Mechanicsburg, Pa., passed away Thursday, May 3, 2012, in Holy Spirit Hospital.

Born Saturday, March 22, 1930, in Burlington, he was the son of the late William H. and Grace (Lombard) Ryan.

Bernard was a graduate of Cathedral High School, Class of 1948.

He retired from New England Telephone & Telegraph after 13 years of service, Continental Telephone of Hershey, Pa., after 17 years of service, and from the United States Government Department of Interior in Washington, DC.

He was a US Navy veteran (Corpsman) of the Korean War and was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Mechanicsburg, where he served as an usher for several years.

Bernard enjoyed playing golf and participated in several bowling leagues in local ABC centers throughout the years.

Bernard is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Frances (Poulin) Ryan; their five children, William Ryan and wife, Ruthann, of Steelton, Pa., Robert Ryan and companion, Tara, of Greensboro, N.C., Michelle Close and husband, Gerard, of Frederick, Md., Mary Lisa Baker and husband, Randy, of Goffstown, N.H., and Louise Dipple and husband, David, of Middletown, Pa.; brother, James Ryan and wife, Corrine, of Enosburg Falls; two sisters, Margaret Weisker of Foxboro, Mass., and Elizabeth Ryan of Tuscon, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bernard was predeceased by his brother, Edward Ryan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Mechanicsburg. Visitation and time of fellowship will be held immediately following the Mass in the church parish center.

Interment will take place at Resurrection Park Cemetery South Burlington.
