He was attached to 1st Battalion The Royal Welsh Battlegroup deployed with the UK contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.

Pte Silibaravi and Cpl Andrew Roberts were killed in an indirect fire (mortar rocket) attack on Forward Operating Base Ouellette, in the northern part of Nahr-e Saraj district, Helmand province.

Aged 32, Pte Silibaravi was born in Fiji and joined the British Army in 2002. He served in 23 Pioneer Regiment RLC and the Support Battalion, Headquarters Allied Rapid Reaction Corps. He also completed public duties at Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace, St James's Palace and the Tower of London in 2008. He served in Iraq in 2003 and Afghanistan in 2006 and 2009. On March 11, 2012 Pte Silibaravi deployed as a member of an Advanced Search Team in the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Search Task Force.

Affectionately called "Sili", was described as a gentle giant and superb soldier. He was also an excellent coach and mentor to the younger soldiers. He was an outstanding rugby player and a talented all round sportsman. He was also a devout Christian, regularly attending Sunday mass, and devoted considerable time and effort to the Fijian community in the UK.

Pte Silibaravi leaves behind his brothers Saimoni Pita, Ratu Meli Silibaravi, Kaveri, and sisters Mereoni and Salote, who all live in Fiji. He was predeceased by his parents, Meli and Merewalesi.


Funeral with full military honours will be held on May 26, 2012 at the Kinoya Methodist Church, Fiji. Burial in Commonwealth War Cemetery in Suva.
