"Introduction:
The first act to establish Union County, Tennessee was recorded January 3, 1850. It was composed of fractions taken from Grainger, Claiborne, Campbell, Anderson, and Knox counties.

Union County is located in the northeastern section of the state and is a hard working county with mostly agriculture and dairy as their main sources of income.

The English and Scotch-Irish were among the earliest settlers; but later were joined by German Dutch, Welsh and several other ethnic groups. This small county was one of the often traveled paths during Tennessee's early pioneer days. Many pioneers migrated down the Clinch and Powell Rivers from North Carolina and Virginia while in search of new lands and lives.

This book is a listing of Union County cemeteries, with a total of entries being 1,685. It contains several early burials, one as early as 1758 and as late as 1932. There are quite a few Civil War veterans buried in these cemeteries, and many infants and young children. Sallie Hayes transcribed this information from handwritten W. P. A. records recorded in 1937. Care has been taken to copy exactly as written, even if it appears to have been spelled wrong. Where an error is believed to be it has been noted by (sic).

It is hoped that you will discover the missing piece you have been searching for in your genealogical puzzle."
