Phyllis (Norman) Grissom, age 90, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2012, at a hospital in Stringer, after a short illness.
Born Sept. 19, 1921, in Rockford, IL, to Bernard Conrad and Marie (nee Kennedy) Norman. Phyllis met and married Cecil Grissom, an Army veteran of World War II. They were married in July 1949, in St. Patrick Church, in Rockford. Phyllis later graduated magna cum laude with a masters degree in education. Phyllis and her husband taught in the public school system of Miami, where she developed curriculums for gifted and struggling students. They retired from the public school system of Miami, to the rural beauty of her husband's boyhood home. In retirement, Phyllis studied and became proficient in computers and HTML programming. She shared her lifelong love of study and inquisitiveness about our world with friends and family through the internet. Her genealogy studies melded the proud history of a woman of the North and a husband of the South through 60 years of marriage.
Predeceased by sisters, Patricia Jaeger of Oklahoma, Katherine Waugh of Bermuda and infant, Dorothy Jane Norman of Rockford.

Memorial held Friday, May 4, at Colonial Funeral Home. Interment in Stringer.
