Samuel Breese & Betsy Smith were married about 1802, probably in Tioga (later became Chemung) Co., New York. They had at 11 children, 9 of whom lived to adulthood. The family is listed on the 1810, 1820, 1830 & 1840 censuses of Elmira, Tioga Co, New York. Daughter Lorinda married Clark W. Wormley about 1839 (where?) and their first child was born in 1840 in Illinois. In 1843, 1844, 1846, 1847 and 1848, more of their children married in Kane Co., Illinois. Betsy Smith died in 1846, probably in Elmira, Chemung, New York. Samuel emigrated to Illinois, probably to join his children there after Betsy died. Samuel Breese is recorded in the 1848 Kane County Personal Property Tax List, residing in Aurora Twp.; valuation $159. Samuel Breese died on April 2, 1849 in Aurora, Kane Co., Illinois. He is buried in the West Aurora Cemetery, Aurora, Kane, Illinois along with several of his children, but I am not sure if wife Betsy is buried there also. Samuel's stone was buried for many years, and his grave was listed as an Unknown. Thanks to Lisa Gerald & Elaine Lindoo for their work restoring and documenting the West Aurora Cemetery. Lot sales book has Lot 71 recorded as owned by Samuel Breese, date May 6, 1863, no price recorded. Note: Many of the dates of sales post-date burials on the lots.

Wife: Betsy Smith, born 1876; her death/burial info unknown. In addition to the children linked to this memorial below, Samuel was also the father of Seneca Cicero Breese, Find A Grave Memorial# 14119912, and Eveline (1805) and Elizabeth (1824) Breese, both of whom died young.
