Delia "Deal" was my paternal grandmother and a daughter of Maston "Matthew" Wiley Box and Margaret Elizabeth (Seats) Box.

She had four siblings:
William Jennings (1890-1980)
Maude Odessa (Box) Tucker (1894-1981)
Bertha (Box) Partney (1897-1984)
Thomas Glenster (1899-1989)

Deal married Scott Alcorn on June 3, 1911 and had 9 children: 1 daughter followed by 8 sons (see list below).

She was a member of the Ellsinore Methodist Church for many years, serving as a Sunday School teacher to young children for several of those years.

I was very blessed to have Grandma in my life until I was 27, especially since my other grandma had passed away when I was only 7. As a kid, I always remember Grandma waiting on the front porch, most of the time in her porch swing, waving a hankie and loudly shouting "woooooooo" to us as we pulled up to her home. And oh, that awesome chicken fried in "Lard" and the blackberry cobbler that always awaited us at lunch or dinner. Such wonderful memories of spending time with such a precious and wonderful Grandma!

I have heard that the sewing machine my brother now owns belonged to Nannie Seats (our great-great-aunt) and was used by her to make dresses for nieces Bessie and Laura Seats and our grandmother, Delia, for the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair.

Grandma's obituary appeared in the 7-17-1980 edition of The Current Local, Van Buren, MO (pg. 1, col. 3) and stated:

"Mrs. Delia Alcorn, age 88, a long-time Ellsinore resident, died at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 1, 1980, at Doctors Regional Medical Center. She had lived at Assembly Nursing Home in Poplar Bluff for the past two years.

Mrs. Alcorn was born July 7th, 1892 near Ellsinore. In 1911 she married Scott Alcorn at Ellsinore. He died in 1946. She was a charter member of the Ellsinore Methodist Church.

Surviving are six sons, Rev. Cecil Alcorn and Ernest Alcorn, both of Poplar Bluff, Percy Alcorn of Berkeley, Scotty(ie) Alcorn of Bridgeton, Donald Alcorn of Ferguson and Bill Alcorn of St. Louis; one daughter, Mildred Magill of Cheyenne, Wyo.; one brother, Tom Boxx of Los Angeles; two sisters, Maude Tucker of St. Louis and Bertha Partney of Van Buren; 23 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Ellsinore Methodist Church with Rev. Russell Paskell of New Madrid officiating. Burial was in the Henson Cemetery by the McSpadden Funeral Home."

Grandma Deal's paternal grandparents were: Hardy Box and Hester Ann King Box.

Her maternal grandparents were: Benjamin F. Seats and Sarah Elizabeth Dobson Seats.
