Actress. A respected Bollywood star, she shall be remembered for a career of nearly 65 years that saw her appear in roughly 140 mostly Hindi language films. Born in what was then British India she made her silver screen debut in the 1938 "Fashionable Wife" the worked for All India Radio, initially in Lahore then following the Partition in Delhi. Sachdev was next seen on screen in 1950's "Dilruba" then was to appear in a steady succession of features over the following half century. She was to reside in Pune after her marriage to wealthy industrialist Clifford Douglas Peters and was to have her best known role as Baraj Sahni's wife in the 1965 drama "Waqt" ("Time"). Performing in both Hindi and English and with time transitioning to mother then grandmother parts, her other noted turns included "The Householder" and "Nine Hours to Rama" (both 1963), "Hare Rama Hare Krishna", a 1971 slam at the hippie subculture of the day, and 1995's "Brave Heart Wins the Girl". Sachdev engaged in numerous philanthropic activities, earned her final credit in the 2002 "Fashion", and died of multiple complications of a full suffered seven months earlier at her home. She was occasionally billed as Achla Sachdev.
