Ida was born in Wilson County, Tennessee. Prior to the Civil War, Ida's father (William Jordan Bennett) came to Tennessee and married one of his distant cousins on the Chandler side of the family -- Martha Virginia Rogers.

Ida's parents married in 1859 and stayed in Tennessee during the war, even though these Bennetts were from Marion County, Illinois. Ida's father even fought in the Confederate army, even though he was born and died in Salem, Illinois.

Ida married Elmer Ellsworth Williams (of New York) in 1882 and had one daughter, Eva Williams, before Ida died young in 1886.
