ELKHART-Walter L Stone, 85 of Meridian Nursing Center-Eastlake, died at 1:05 pm Saturday (July16, 1994) in the center, where he had been a patient for 18 months.
He was born April1, 1909 in Junction City, Kan. He married Martha Mae Scheetz on June 8, 1929 in Goshen. She died Jan 21, 1981 in Elkhart. He is survived by two sons, Dale E of Goshen and Charles E of Fort Mill, S.C.; three daughters, Barbara J. Stone of Angola, Mrs. Samuel (Mary A.) Bardo and Mrs. Claude (Sue) Bowyer, both of Bristol; 12 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Everett (Nellie) Pate of Ceres, Calif.; one half-sister, Kathleen Bienz of Elkhart; and one half-brother Howard Stone of Elkhart. A brother Lewis Stone; a half brother, Douglas Stone; and one sister, Virginia Duncan, preceded him in death.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Monday at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home, where the funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Daniel Engber of Zion Lutheran Church, Bristol, will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Street Cemetery.
Mr. Stone retired in 1971 from Richardson Homes, where he was employed for 19 years as a maintenance electrician.
Memorial may be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.
